Lucca
According to the New York Times, Lucca is one of the six European destinations to be discovered. Why? Thanks to its mix of art, culture, history and beauty to be enjoyed at a slow pace, offering a valid alternative to Florence.

But Lucca has also food traditions that alone make the trip worthwhile. Don't miss "Il Desco" that takes place in November and December, it is like a large open-air market featuring the best in local Italian flavors.
It would be impossible to condense the beauties of Lucca in just few lines, therefore here we limit to list some peculiarities, and we suggest you to discover narrow streets, monuments and picturesque views, accompanied by a tour guide, who can reveal secrets and anecdotes of this multifaceted town.

The "show" begins in Piazza dell'Anfiteatro, built in the Middle Ages over Roman ruins. This area features osterias, trattorias, artisans' workshop. It's a true elliptical-shaped gem, accessible via four captivating vaulted gateways.
The walls from the sixteenth and seventeenth century hembracing the historic center are equally as enchanting. Visitors can walk or bike 4 kilometers of pathways that offers unique views of the town, considering they stand 12 meters in height.

You can’t finish your tour without getting lost in the streets, squares, gardens, palaces and towers, from which you can contemplate the hills.
