Since the Middle Ages Lucca has developed an excellent musical culture. It has hosted some of the greatest European authors, including Luigi Boccherini, Alfredo Catalani and Giacomo Puccini.
Puccini was born in Lucca, in a family of composers originally coming from Val di Serchio.
In Celle, near Pescaglia, you will find Puccini’s house which has now become an important museum.
For his narrative and compositional choices, Puccini was inspired by the sounds of the streets and squares of Lucca, the atmosphere of Lake Massaciuccoli, the tranquility of Celle and the memory of the Belle Epoque of certain corners of Viareggio.
Today it’s possible to organize Puccini’s tours, which take you to visit the house in the historic center where he was born, now a museum, and then lead you to discover other places linked to his memory, outside and inside the city walls: the local Teatro del Giglio, the Gran Teatro in Torre del Lago, on the shores of Lake Massaciuccoli, near the villa where Puccini lived for thirty years.
And of course Celle, the land of his ancestors.
